Junior High All-Region

The Junior High All-Region tryouts were held recently in Pocahontas. This was for our band students in 8th and 9th grade. The following Brookland Band students were honored:

Congratulations to these students! They will be playing at a concert with the other All-Region members in January (date TBA).

Upcoming Events

On Sunday, December 12, the band will play at the Brookland Baptist Church following the Christmas parade. Tentative start time is 2:45.

On Monday, December 13, the band will be having their annual Christmas Concert! Students need to arrive at the auditorium at 6pm, with the program to start at 7pm. The Band Boosters will be there to accept your donations. We will also have sunglasses available for purchase. These will make great stocking stuffers for the biggest of Brookland Bearcat supporters!!

We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Meeting November 22, 2010

This will be a Band Booster meeting to be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 7pm in the auditorium. We will go over a few items with regard to band booster business, but the main item will be discussion by Mr. Hogard regarding band trip in the spring to Branson. If your child is going to attend this trip, then parent attendance to this meeting is mandatory, as per Mr. Hogard.

We will have sunglasses there if anyone wishes to purchase any at that time.

We hope the first partial week of school went well for everyone.

CLICK HERE to review a flier regarding the boosters first fundraiser of the year. These are customized, Bearcat sunglasses. For now, we are taking pre-orders. When open house is held on August 26, you will be able to see a set of “sample” sunglasses (though they have a different mascot on them, you will be able to get a feel for what they will look like), and order at that time. Payment is due when you order, and the cost is $15 per pair. Checks can be made payable to the Brookland Band Boosters Association.

Please pass the word along to anyone you know who might be interested in pre-ordering – those who pre-order are guaranteed to receive a pair! CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD AN ORDER FORM. Simply print it out, send it to school with your child along with your payment.

First meeting – September 2

We will hold our first band booster meeting on Thursday, September 2, at 6pm (or shortly thereafter) in the AUDITORIUM. The band will be playing at the football game that evening, and they will need to meet at 6pm in the band room. We ask that parents stick around and report to the auditorium for our first meeting of the year. Our main items of business are to let you know what we have in mind for an initial fundraiser, and to vote on proposed changes to the bylaws as recommended by special committee. Below are the proposed changes (if you want to see our current bylaws, go to our website at bearcatband.org , click on the “about” page, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Bylaws”).

Proposed changes to the bylaws:

Article VI, Section 1 shall be changed to read: Meetings will be held as necessary, at the recommendation of the President. Meeting times shall be e-mailed to all members who have made their e-mail addresses available to the band boosters. Meeting times shall also be posted on the band booster website at bearcatband.org on the public calendar, as well as on the band boosters Facebook page.

Article X, Section 4 shall be changed to read: Scholarships to band camp will be paid as a reimbursement to the band member upon completion of band camp. The following documentation must be presented by the band member to the band boosters in order to receive scholarship funds: canceled check made payable to band camp, receipts and/or invoices reflecting payment, certificate of completion, e-mail confirmation of payment received by the band camp, or any other acceptable document proving that the band member completed camp. Upon receipt of the documentation to the band boosters, reimbursement will be made to the band member.

Article X, Section 5 will be deleted.

School starts Thursday!

I’m BACK! Hope your summer went extraordinary. You will not need your instruments on Thursday, but you will on Friday. All 8th graders need to find your “Pretty Book.” We are going to do a two week fast forward through the book to get back in the swing of things. High School Band, you are going to be getting new music and old music for pep band. We are keeping Paint it Black, Eye of the Tiger, and a few others from last year and adding “Thriller”, “Breadfan” (A Metallica song from 1994), and a few others. I hope you like them.

The final band concert was a success as was the fundraiser by the Band Boosters. Thanks goes to the following people for their assistance over the past few weeks with the Awards ceremony & the final concert:

Fundraiser

The Brookland Band Booster Association is having a fundraiser. For your $5 donation to the band boosters, you will receive one ticket that gives you the opportunity to win one of the packages listed below. If you donate $20, then you will get 4 tickets. You can select the package that you wish to have the chance to win. The winners will be announced at the May 20 final band concert; you do not have to be present to win.

In addition to the fund raiser mentioned last night, we will also have a Silent Auction (those items are listed at the bottom). The Silent Auction will be held during the final concert on May 20. You MUST be present to take your item with you.
